St. John’s

St. John’s is the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is also the largest city in the province, and the second largest city in Atlantic Canada.

Active Transportation Plan | 2019

Bike St. John’s Master Plan includes the promotion of Complete Streets in local neighbourhoods. The document outlines St. John’s commitment to implement streets that will be walkable, safe, and provide pedestrian access with adjoining neighbourhoods, cycling routes, and transit routes. Complete Streets will be achieved through new street standards for new development, as well as retrofitting existing streets as part of the city’s ongoing capital works programs.

Land Use Plan | 2017

The 2017 Envision St. John’s Municipal Plan includes Complete Streets within their key themes of “Vibrant, Complete Neighbourhoods” and “Investment in Transportation and Services”. Complete streets are mentioned within the context of their Parks System, in that “plans for new development areas include a hierarchy of parks and public spaces interconnected to adjacent neighbourhoods by pathways and complete streets” (p.4-5). Finally, Complete Streets are mentioned in chapter 6 on Urban Design and chapter 7 on Transportation and Infrastructure.
