Red Deer

Red Deer is Alberta’s third largest city, located between Calgary and Edmonton.

Sustainability Plan | 2011

The Red Deer Environmental Master Plan of 2011 has set a goal to prioritize active transportation.

One of the actions for consideration are to “Incorporate a ‘Complete Streets’ pilot initiative in the rebuild/redesign of city centre street, neighbourhood street and Riverlands community design” (p. 35).

As of 2006, pedestrian/bicycle use was at 7% and has set a target of 9% by 2021 (p. 34).

The City of Red Deer has created an updated Environmental Master Plan in 2019 but it does not mention Complete Streets.

Strategic Plan | 2011

The Strategic Direction of 2011 has six themes for a healthy community including economy, movement, dialogue, identity, design, and safety. Under the movement theme, city council has stated they will “have our own model of “complete streets” that reflects the character and values of Red Deer” (p. 10).

The City of Red Deer has created a Strategic Plan for 2019 – 2022 but it does not mention complete streets.
