Fort St. John is a small city in northeastern British Columbia.
The City of Fort St. John included a Complete Streets approach in the municipality’s 2011 Official Community Plan. The plan aims to create a walking and cycling network in Fort St. John, and directs council to “consider a ‘Complete Streets’ approach when developing the active transportation and active living network” (p. 17). Unfortunately, the directive to “consider” Complete Streets doesn’t provide the strongest commitment to implementing Complete Streets. However, the plan commits Fort St. John to being an “accessible community,” which “means making trails, streets, businesses, public areas, buildings, sidewalks and homes accessible to all residents” through universal design principles (p. 17).
